A Remedy for Missing Teeth

Difficult to hide and a cause for worry, a gap in your smile is something our team at Tabor Dental Associates recommends you should fix, but not just because it can harm your self-esteem. Your incomplete smile can quickly develop into more serious dental problems as remaining teeth shift and alter your bite. If eating on one side of your mouth becomes too common or uncomfortable, you’ll disproportionally apply strain on the joints, muscles, and teeth. To remedy this and keep your smile from harm, our dentist, Dr. Jayson Tabor, provides fixed dental bridges in Hendersonville, TN.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

Dental bridges are natural-looking dental appliances that can replace a section of missing teeth. Because they are custom-made, a dental bridge is barely noticeable and can restore the natural contour of teeth as well as the proper bite relationship between upper and lower teeth. Dental bridges are fixed in place to either natural teeth or dental implants and are generally made from porcelain, gold alloys or combinations of materials. As a restorative dentist, Dr. Tabor has years of experience in replacing teeth with dental bridges and will determine the best material for you. Through our digital treatment process, your new restoration will blend seamlessly into your smile for a perfect fit!

Expect a Personalized Treatment

Dental bridges are usually performed in two visits. Your first visit will include a consultation and oral examination. If you’re a good candidate for a dental bridge, Dr. Tabor will carefully remove a portion of each tooth that will support the restoration. Next, using one of our digital intraoral scanners, either the iTero® or CEREC Primescan, we’ll take high-resolution digital impressions of these teeth. This ensures that your dental bridge is designed to have a natural and secure fit, while reducing the chances of decay over time. Until the permanent bridge is completed, Dr. Tabor will fit you with a temporary dental bridge, so your teeth and gums remain protected.

You’ll return to our office in Hendersonville, TN for a second visit to have your final tooth bridge fitted and cemented in place. After your dental bridge is correctly fitted and your bite is perfect, our dental staff will take further impressions to ensure that the bite is natural and does not cause any pain or discomfort during everyday movements. Dr. Tabor and our team will ensure that the shade is the same as your adjacent natural teeth, resulting in a natural-looking smile that will boost your confidence and make you feel better about smiling, laughing, and eating!

When to Consider Dental Implants

Dental bridges don’t always have to be fixed to natural teeth. In some cases, where multiple teeth are missing in a row, the anchors for your tooth bridge can be dental implants instead. These appliances, called implant bridges, find security in dental implants that have been surgically placed into the jawbone. This often increases their longevity since dental bridges attached to natural teeth often don’t last as long. Oftentimes, a bridge is considered a more economical option for a dental implant site with deficient bone. However, if you do have sufficient bone, or receive bone grafting first, the dental implant solution is a long-term restorative option that can provide the same level of function and beauty to your smile.
