If you have a strong gag reflex, dislike dental visits, or need extensive dental work, consider sedation dentistry to make your experience more pleasant. Sedation dentistry refers to the way we manage pain and anxiety during your dental visit. We offer nitrous sedation (which is gas), oral conscious sedation (which is a pill), and IV sedation (which, through an IV line, allows us to achieve one of the deepest forms of sedation available).
With oral conscious sedation, Dr. Mike combines nitrous oxide gas with an anti-anxiety medication to create a state of total relaxation for our patients. You will take the pill an hour before the appointment. During treatment, you may drift off to sleep, but you will be able to respond to verbal commands. When you wake, you will probably remember very little about the procedure.
IV sedation involves administration of the medication directly to your blood stream, and Dr. Mike has received specialized certification for this type of anesthesia. Both oral conscious sedation and IV sedation will require you to ask another adult to drive you to and from the appointment.
