| Early decay shows up as red with a reading of 1.5 or greater. These spots will need to be restored to restore the health of the tooth. |
With Spectra, it’s possible for Dr. Tabor to spot cavities early, before decay has a chance to seriously harm teeth. Making this possible is Spectra’s fluorescence technology, which uses a safe, high-energy violet blue light to stimulate the metabolites of cariogenic bacteria (also known as porphyrins) and cause them to appear red when displayed on a monitor, while healthy enamel appears green.
Once Dr. Tabor has captured an image of your teeth, the results can be viewed with either color-coded indicators (such as blue, red, orange, or yellow) or numerical indicators between 0 and 5.0. Dr. Tabor can even use Spectra to find cavities that might be hiding between composite and amalgam fillings, or to double check that all signs of decay of been treated following a restoration procedure.
Our Nashville office is proud to use Spectra, which is FDA approved and is safe for both adults and children, as part of all our cleaning and checkup exams. Contact our office today to find out more about Spectra and its benefits for patients.
